News: Jury says Led Zeppelin did not rip off “Stairway to Heaven” | Ars Technica

Jury says Led Zeppelin did not rip off “Stairway to Heaven” | Ars TechnicaPlant testified that he could not remember encountering the band Spirit. "I don't have a recollection of almost anyone I've hung out with," Plant said. He added that he couldn't remember playing with the band at a 1970 venue in England, either. "I can't actually recall Spirit or anyone playing there with the passing of time," he said.
I think it's ironic that the audio samples are on YouTube and more than likely are actual examples of infringement!

News: DMCA wins big in record label lawsuit against Vimeo | Ars Technica

DMCA wins big in record label lawsuit against Vimeo | Ars Technica: "A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that ISP's such as video-sharing sites like Vimeo are protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act for pre-1972 musical recordings uploaded by their users.

Vimeo is a terrific site, have never seen any infringing materials there. Unlike YouTube, of course, which has the entire Discovery documentary catalog seemingly available on random user accounts :(
Still, I much prefer the world with YouTube than without.

News: Report insists Apple 'keeping options open' on phasing out iTunes downloads

Report insists Apple 'keeping options open' on phasing out iTunes downloads: "While the company doesn't have a definite timeline at this stage, Apple is allegedly changing the architecture of iTunes in such a way that it could more easily drop downloads if sales saw a precipitous decline, sources told Digital Music News. Paid downloads are already "entering a free fall" in 2016, the publication claimed, citing leaked preliminary statistics. "

Can't wait to start rebuilding my CD collection.
