News: New data shows Apple Music contributing to rebirth of music industry, but it’s not winning over Spotify users | 9to5Mac

New data shows Apple Music contributing to rebirth of music industry, but it’s not winning over Spotify users | 9to5Mac: "Sherman notes that while a song streamed from YouTube is no different for the fan, it’s dramatically different for the artists and labels. Sherman also put Spotify’s free streaming tier in the same boat, noting that the payout differences between free music streaming and paid is “jarring and indefensible.”"

I get all the convenience of streaming from iTunes sync with my devices. I use streaming on borrowed devices. That's my jam.

News: An OS 9 odyssey: Why these Mac users won’t abandon 16-year-old software | Ars Technica

An OS 9 odyssey: Why these Mac users won’t abandon 16-year-old software | Ars TechnicaHe has constructed his home studio around a Digidesign ProControl mixing and recording console and a Power Mac G4 running ProTools 5.1.3. Connected to that Mac via its four PCI expansion slots, he has an array of mixer cards and "other 'obsolete' items." The setup would have cost tens of thousands of dollars 15 years ago, but he scrounged it together for far less off sites like eBay and Craigslist over the last few years.

News: Apple kills headphone jack, but says there is a $49 fix for it

Apple kills headphone jack, but says there is a $49 fix for it: "Upset with Apple over the missing headphone jack in the new iPhones? The company wants you to know there’s a $39 fix for that."

$49 for the adapter you didn't need and a brand new Apogee Mic because the old one doesn't allow you to monitor your recording? In 50,000 years they will be excavating single earbuds from the Earth's strata because those little guys are going down sewer drains like nobody's business.

What? I can't hear you, I need to recharge my earbuds. Call you back in 30min.

News: Apple's 'iPhone 7' to boast True Tone display, upgraded camera flash, capacities of 32-256GB

Apple's 'iPhone 7' to boast True Tone display, upgraded camera flash, capacities of 32-256GB: "Finally, Kuo also reiterated once again that the "iPhone 7" is expected to remove the legacy 3.5-millimeter headphone jack. Apple is said to have utilized the space to add a second speaker with an audio amplifier, and will reportedly ship both Lightning EarPods and a Lightning to headphone adapter in the box."

Should wipe out sales of all iPhone enabled lightning recording microphones, because you can't use one jack for two items. As the iPhone continues it's morph from a device of creation to a device of consumption.
